ATALANTA FUGIENS
2020
A series of low-relief sculptures created for the staging of the world’s first augmented reality performance based on Atalanta Fugiens, a 17th century treatise on alchemy. Michael Maier’s Atalanta Fugiens, or Atalanta Fleeing, emblematically embodies ideas of “spiritual alchemy” through sublime artistic expression. The sculptures were created in a digital laboratory based on original engravings and realized in ceramics.
The full title of the treatise: “Atalanta Fleeing, or New Emblems of the Secret Chemical Nature, suitable equally for the eyes and the mind, in figures engraved on copper with attached descriptions, epigrams and notes designed to recreate in sound and spirit 50 musical fugues in three voices, two of which are reduced to a simple melody to which verses are set, with singular charm to be contemplated, read, meditated upon, comprehended, discerned, sung, and heard: authored by Michael Maier, Count of the Imperial Consistory, Doctor of Medicine, Knight”.

Серия барельефов к первому в мире спектаклю в дополненной реальности по алхимическому трактату XVII века. «Убегающая Аталанта» Михаэля Майера – своеобразная книга эмблем, в которой идеи “духовной алхимии” воплощены с высочайшей художественной выразительностью. Работа была создана в цифровой лаборатории по оригинальным историческим иллюстрациям и воплощена в керамике.
Полное название трактата: «(Убегающая Аталанта) или Новые Химические Эмблемы, Открывающие Тайны Природы, Пригодные как для созерцания, так и для размышления, в фигурах, гравированных на меди, с прилагающимися описаниями, Эпиграммами и примечаниями, предназначенными для воссоздания в душе и звуке 50 музыкальных фуг на три голоса, два из которых приведены к простой мелодии, на которую исполняются куплеты, и все это в целом можно рассматривать, читать, использовать для медитации, понимать, оценивать, петь и слушать не без приятности: Написанные Михаэлем Майером Графом Имперской Консистории, Доктором Медицины, Рыцарем».

(Make of the man and woman a Circle, of that a Quadrangle, of this a Triangle, of the same a Circle and you will have the Stone of the Philosophers.)
